Behavioral Health Services

NSHC’s Behavioral Health Services (BHS) Unit treats patients with behavioral health problems, using a holistic approach to the individual, family and community. Our drug and alcohol information school is the only state-licensed program of its kind in northwestern Alaska. Outpatient services include:

  • Assessment and psychiatric evaluation
  • Crisis management
  • Individual, couple, group and family counseling
  • Interactive and observational play therapy
  • Medication assessment and evaluation
  • Case management and referral

BHS has memoranda of agreement with other regional and state agencies to promote therapeutic services throughout the region. Patients requiring high-level behavioral health and substance abuse management may be referred to residential programs outside the region.
