Norton Sound Regional Hospital’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Department is a certified Level IV Trauma Center. Our emergency room is open 24 hours a day and is equipped to handle initial evaluation, stabilization and diagnostic services for nearly any injury or illness.
For patients with medical, surgical and psychiatric problems requiring immediate attention in Nome or Anchorage, NSHC provides transport with a critical care air ambulance service. EMS flights are staffed with certified paramedics and flight nurses.
The EMS Department trains residents of the Norton Sound region in CPR, advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), pediatric life support (PALS), wilderness first aid and injury prevention. It also offers certification for emergency trauma technician (ETT) and emergency medical technician (EMT).
