It is a pleasure to welcome you to the Norton Sound Health Corporation Web site. NSHC is a Tribally owned and operated, independent, not-for profit health care organization, founded in 1970. 1970-2010 NSHC will be celebrating 40 years of dedicated service to the people of the region. We have a 24-member board of directors who represent all communities and areas of the Bering Strait region, a 44,000 square-mile section of northwestern Alaska.
Our current Strategic Health Plan will focus on ten Board/staff identified priorities, ranging from patient satisfaction, village clinic services, staff development, improving diagnostic systems and screenings, new hospital construction and transition, and overall organizational development. Our 2010 annual budget is over $60 million, which allows NSHC to provide a wide variety of health services with our almost 500 employees, 72% of whom are Native.
NSHC is quickening the pace of positive change by refocusing our system to put our patients, clients, and communities first in everything we do. We have embarked on major building and renovation programs, yet our improvements do not focus only on adding facilities and expanding programs. We are placing clear, primary emphasis on external and internal customer service throughout the region. The NSHC mission is to "Provide quality health services and promoting wellness within our people and environment." Clearly, we are a corporation dedicated to providing excellent patient and client services as we move toward our vision of becoming Alaska's preferred rural health system!
