Skilled nursing staff provide direct patient care to those within the Inpatient Unit and Emergency Room from newborn to elders. The inpatient unit can accommodate up to 18 patients and utilizes a multi-disciplinary approach to health care. The staff are committed to creating an healing atmosphere where the patients health care needs are being met, in a manner that is respectful and understood. Families are encouraged to be part of the healing process, and are welcome to visit during Visiting Hours. As a critical access facility, NSHC operates a 24 hour Emergency Room. Patients will be evaluated and a plan of care determined. Nurses will perform the initial assessment, and interview of the patient. Together with the medical provider, a patient may receive treatment and be released, admitted into the Inpatient Unit or referred and transportation/medivac arranged to appropriate care outside of Nome. |
