Physical Therapy staff at NSHC provide evaluation and treatment services for a variety of conditions for patients of all age groups. We primarily focus on orthopedic concerns such as ankle sprains and back injuries but also work with patients experiencing difficulty walking, weakness or open wounds. We utilize a variety of treatment options including modalities (therapeutic ultrasound, iontophoresis, electrical stimulation) as well as hands on treatments (mobilization and manipulation). An important aspect of physical therapy that we provide is patient education in self care including home exercise program. In addition to these services, NSHC Physical Therapy now offers Electromyography and Nerve Conduction studies. The results of these tests are used by referring physicians to determine if a patient might have a nerve or muscle disease. Services are provided in Nome at the Norton Sound Health Corporation as well as at the village clinics during semi-annual field visits. |
