Meet Our BHS Administrative Staff
Bridie Trainor, Director of Behavioral Health Services
With a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Alaska Fairbanks and a minor in music, her recent work has been in the field of social services. She has worked in the Qasgiq House, NEST, Kawerak Wellness, and most recently, Kawerak Child Care Services.
“Nome and all the Bering Strait communities continually shape my family,” she said. “I am grateful to live in a place that relies on the values of interdependence and enjoy learning, along with others, how to find balance. I love that Liitfik, a place to return to our senses, is everywhere for everyone.”
Bridie (Ivalu) grew up in Sutton, Nome, Utqiagvik, Anchorage, and later Fairbanks. Today, she and her husband, Willy Hoogendorn, share a family of five children, Oliver, Wilson, Sonya, Orson, and Nevelo, along with their dog, Ruby. A tribal member of Nome Eskimo Community with family originating in Utqiagvik, Beaver, Japan, and the eastern U.S., Bridie has a close interest in the intersections of culture and community.
“I hope to help create services and partnerships with the understanding that Liitfik encompasses all the physical, spiritual, emotional, environmental, cultural, individual, and communal aspects of who we are,” she said.
