Active COVID-19 Cases in 8 Regional Communities
Nome, Alaska – Norton Sound Health Corporation identified 22 positive COVID-19 cases between Friday and Sunday, bringing the total number of active cases to 103 in eight different communities.
Of the new cases, five are in Little Diomede, four are in Stebbins, four are in St. Michael, four are in Savoonga, two are in Nome, two are in Koyuk, and two are in Elim. Patients have been notified and are safely isolating.
Of regionwide active cases, 55 are in Stebbins, 22 are in St. Michael, seven are in Little Diomede, six are in Savoonga, five are in Nome, four are in Elim, two are in Unalakleet, and two are in Koyuk. Village leadership in all communities with active cases has been contacted.
Beginning September 7, NSHC will be offering Moderna and Pfizer booster COVID-19 vaccines in Nome. Appointments will be open to anyone who is 12 years and older, who is at least 6 months past their second dose of Moderna or Pfizer. For people who received either Moderna’s or Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine series, a third dose of the same vaccine is recommended. An announcement for scheduling a booster vaccine appointment will be shared within the week.
In the village, anyone eligible can schedule a booster vaccine appointment by calling their local clinic.
There is currently no booster announcement for the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
As of August 28, 64% of the total population in the region is fully vaccinated, and 82% of the eligible population, 12 years and older, are fully vaccinated. The region is 6% away from reaching a herd immunity of 70%.
