Nome, Alaska– Late in the evening on November 22, Norton Sound Health Corporation received one positive COVID-19 result.
The patient, who is a non-resident of the region, tested in accordance with the City of Nome travel mandate. They are safely isolating in Nome, where they will remain until fully recovered. This case is considered to be travel-related. The State of Alaska Section of Epidemiology and Public Health Nursing have been notified and will conduct further investigation, including contact tracing. There are currently 41 active cases in Nome and four active cases in region villages.
Community travel mandates continue to prove to be an effective tool at identifying positive cases of the virus and preventing further spread. NSHC encourages people to pay attention to the latest resolutions from communities regarding travel and requirements from travelers, including needed quarantine time and COVID-19 testing.
With the Thanksgiving Holiday just a few days away, NSHC advises all residents of the region to enjoy this holiday time with your immediate household and avoid celebrating with large groups and your extended family. If you are not prepared to make your own Thanksgiving dinner this holiday season, NSHC has ordered holiday meats for each household in the region.
