COVID-19 Cases Identified in Unalakleet and Nome

Nome, Alaska – On June 9, Norton Sound Health Corporation identified two positive COVID-19 cases in the region. The first patient, a resident of Nome, acquired the virus through community spread. The second patient’s case is considered to be travel-related. They are a resident of Unalakleet and an employee of NSHC. The patients are safely isolating, and close contacts have been notified.

There are currently 11 active cases in Nome, and one active case in Unalakleet.

NSHC has been in contact with community leadership in Unalakleet to develop a response plan. In Unalakleet, anyone who would like to be tested or vaccinated for COVID-19 can call 624-3535 during regular clinic hours. In addition, any vaccinated close contact is not required to quarantine.

If you have any questions, please email . The Nurse Call Line – a free, Nome-based medical advice service – is available at 443-6411.
