Five COVID-19 Cases Identified
Nome, Alaska – Norton Sound Health Corporation identified five positive COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, September 1. Two cases were identified in St. Michael, two are in Elim, and one is in Stebbins. Patients have been notified and are safely isolating. Each of these cases was a close contact to another positive case in their community.
There are currently 85 active cases in the region: 40 are in Stebbins, 15 are in St. Michael, seven are in Savoonga, seven are in Little Diomede, six are in Elim, five are in Nome, two are in Koyuk, one is in Unalakleet, one is in Brevig Mission, and one is in Golovin. Village leadership in all communities have been notified.
Beginning September 7, NSHC will be offering Moderna and Pfizer booster COVID-19 vaccinations. Appointments will be open to anyone who is at least 6 months past their second dose of Moderna or Pfizer. For people who received either Moderna’s or Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine series, a third dose of the same vaccine is recommended.
