On November 22, Norton Sound Health Corporation received one positive COVID-19 result.
The patient who tested positive for COVID-19 is a resident of Nome, where they are safely isolating until recovered. This case is considered to be travel related. The State of Alaska Section of Epidemiology and Public Health Nursing have been notified and will conduct further investigation, including contact tracing.
The addition of this COVID-19 result brings the total number of active cases in Nome to 40. A patient’s active (infectious) period is determined by the medical and public health teams based on dates of symptoms and testing. NSHC will maintain a count of patients in their active/infectious period. As patients come out of their infectious period, they will reduce the total “active case count”, while new patients will increase the total “active case count”.
Community travel mandates continue to prove to be an effective tool at identifying positive cases of the virus and preventing further spread. NSHC encourages people to pay attention to the latest resolutions from communities regarding travel and requirements from travelers, including needed quarantine time and COVID-19 testing.
With the Thanksgiving Holiday just a few days away, NSHC advises all residents of the region to enjoy this holiday time with your immediate household and avoid celebrating with large groups and your extended family. If you are not prepared to make your own Thanksgiving dinner this holiday season, NSHC has ordered holiday meats for each household in the region. Households have the option of choosing a turkey for Thanksgiving or Prime Rib in time for Christmas delivery. NSHC is available to deliver your turkey this week by texting or calling 907-434-0950.
