One Community Spread Case Identified
On December 10, Norton Sound Health Corporation identified a positive COVID-19 case.
The patient, a resident of Nome, is now safely isolating. The case is considered to be community spread and will be investigated further by the State of Alaska Section of Epidemiology and Public Health Nursing. There have been 95 positive COVID-19 cases since the mid-November outbreak in Nome. Eighty-two individuals have recovered, including the two who have been released from isolation today. In Nome, there are currently 13 active cases, with zero active cases in our region’s villages.
NSHC now has drive-up appointments available for anyone who would like a drive-up testing appointment, or for those who are considered to be close contacts of someone who tested positive for COVID-19. NSHC staff has created a drive-up testing parking spot near the entry door to the registration area in front of the Nome Operations Building. The parking spot is outlined with yellow posts. You can schedule a drive-up appointment, as well as a rapid testing appointment, at www.picktime.com/NSHC. To help detect the virus early and to stay proactive, NSHC recommends that one member of each household be tested once every two weeks.
If you develop a cough, fever, shortness of breath, vomiting, diarrhea, congestion, fatigue, headache, or loss of taste or smell, please immediately quarantine and make an appointment at the Cough and Cold Clinic by calling the main appointment desk at (907) 443-3333. You can also call the direct line to the Cough and Cold Clinic at (907) 443-9666 or (907) 443-4200.
