Nome, Alaska – On Thursday, Dec. 16, Norton Sound Health Corporation identified one positive COVID-19 case in Unalakleet. The case in considered to be community spread and the patient has been notified and is safely isolating.
Norton Sound Health Corporation, including village clinics, will close on Thursday, Dec. 23 and Friday, Dec. 24 in celebration of Christmas. It will also be closed on Dec. 31 for New Year’s Eve.
The ER will remain open for any emergencies and acute needs during this time
The Cough and Cold Clinic will also be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays, and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends for anyone experiencing COVID-19 symptoms and would like to see a physician.
The Nome Operations Building Testing Center, normally open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., will be closed on all three days. Testing will be available to incoming travelers at the airport.
The Nurse Call Line – a free, Nome-based medical advice service – is available at 443-6411.
There are currently 61 active cases in the region: 21 in St. Michael, 20 in Unalakleet, 13 in Nome, five in Stebbins, and two in Brevig Mission. Village leadership in all communities have been notified.
