Nome, Alaska – On Tuesday, August 3, Norton Sound Health Corporation identified 15 new positive COVID-19 cases in Stebbins.
The additional cases bring the region’s active case count to 47. Four of the cases are located in Nome, and the remainder is in Stebbins.
All 15 new cases are considered community spread and are tied to the ongoing outbreak. Healthcare providers in the community are busily testing all close contacts of positive cases.
All Stebbins residents ages 12 and older who are not vaccinated against COVID-19 are advised to immediately go to the clinic and get vaccinated.
The community of Stebbins is currently under a lockdown, which will end when there are no new cases identified for 14 days. The Stebbins Community Association stipulates that during the lockdown, there will be no visiting between households or with other communities. There is a 10-person limit at the store and a five-person limit at the laundromat. There will be no bingo during this time, and there is a curfew of 10 p.m.
NSHC will continue to update the community on new cases as they are identified. Community leadership is working on feasible ways to stop the spread of the virus. Following the rules of the lockdown will ensure the spread ends quicker, and normal activities will be able to resume.
