Contact: Sarah Richards, Public Relations Specialist
Phone: (907) 443-4591

Nome, Alaska – Norton Sound Health Corporation identified two COVID-19 cases in the region between Friday, May 13 and Sunday, May 15. There are currently two active cases in the region, both in Nome.

The NSHC Tribal Leader Call is now once a week, at 11 a.m. on Wednesdays. Call 1-800-315-6338; code: 03286# for the latest information on the pandemic and to have your COVID-19 questions answered by medical professionals.

In Nome, COVID-19 testing is available at the Cough and Cold Clinic, located at the hospital’s Primary Care Clinic. The Cough and Cold Clinic is open 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Friday and 10 a.m.-10 p.m. on weekends, and remains open on holidays. In regional villages, patients should contact their local clinic to schedule a test.

A second booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine is available to people aged 50 and older, if desired. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved a second booster shot for the 50-plus age range, as long as individuals received their first booster shot at least four months ago. Those most at risk for severe COVID-19 remain people aged 65 and older and people over 50 years who have underlying medical conditions.

Vaccinations are available by walk-in or appointment at the NSHC Pharmacy 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and 2-5:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. Patients in regional villages may contact their local clinic to arrange a booster vaccination.
