COVID-19 Screening and Testing Procedures

October 14, 2020

Nome Testing Tent (Outside the Hospital)

  1. Rapid Testing– Any patient (no matter the age) can get a rapid test at the NSHC Testing tent outside the hospital by making an appointment. Any patient who has an appointment will be guaranteed a rapid test. Patients do not need to explain why they want a rapid test. The only requirement is that an appointment must be made. To make an appointment for a rapid test, visit www.picktime.com/NSHC. There are only so many appointments per day (10 per hour), because new guidance from the rapid machine vendor requires rapid tests to be run within one hour. Patients cannot “walk-in” and request a rapid test, but will be scheduled for a test if there is an appointment available.

  2. Walk–in Tent Testing- Patients may walk-in for “send out tests”. There is no requirement to make an appointment for routine, send out testing.

  3. Patients with Symptoms- If patients have symptoms of cough, cold, flu, etc…they will need to go to the cough and cold clinic, not the Nome testing tent. The Nome testing tent is for asymptomatic testing. To make an appointment in the Cough and Cold Clinic, call 443-3333 Monday through Friday, or the Nurse Call Line on the weekend at 844-586-8773. The Cough and Cold Clinic is open seven days a week.

  4. Nome School Kids Sent Home Due to Symptoms- When children are screened at Nome Public Schools and asked to go home because of cough, cold, flu-like symptoms until cleared by NSHC, patients/families will need to make an appointment in the Cough and Cold Clinic. To schedule an appointment in the Cough and Cold Clinic, call 443-3333 Monday through Friday, or the Nurse Call Line on the weekend at 844-586-8773. The Cough and Cold Clinic is open seven days a week.

** Please Note** There has been a high demand for appointments in the Cough and Cold Clinic over the past few days. Another provider will be added to the Cough and Cold Clinic. If you are having a difficult time booking a same day appointment, Call the appointment desk and talk to Judy Alvanna or Stephanie Evans at 443-3333, or ask to speak to the Charge Nurse.

Nome Primary Care will not take any walk-ins or appointments for patients with cough/cold/flu-like symptoms. All patients with these symptoms will be asked to go to the Cough and Cold Clinic. NSHC is addressing the high volume of patients going to the Cough and Cold Clinic and will ensure there is enough access to appointments.

Testing per City of Nome Travel Mandate:

Step 1: Arrival in Nome and Test: Day 1 (testing at airport tent or hospital tent)

Step 2: One week of Quarantine (Day 1-7)

Step 3: Test on Day 7 at Nome Testing Tent (rapid tests require an appointment) or at village clinic (call your clinic)

Step 4: Release from Quarantine (Day 8, or once negative results received). Text 833-413-0568 with the patient’s full name and date of birth to receive your test results

**Please Note** If you are in quarantine, please stay home except for emergencies. Any medical appointments should be delayed until after you have been released from quarantine. Telemedicine is a good option if you need to speak with a medical professional.
