Patient Hostel

The Patient Hostel/Pre-Maternal Home is located directly across Greg Kruschek Avenue from the Norton Sound Regional Hospital. Its purpose is to provide a safe, clean, drug- and alcohol-free environment for patients to rest before and after their appointments in Nome.

The Hostel is open all year long, at all hours. The building is locked at 10 p.m., but residents can still come and go as they please.

Monday through Friday, guests are provided with meal tickets to be used at the Fireweed Café located at the hospital for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. On weekends, a continental-style breakfast is provided in the Hostel boardroom. Lunch and dinner on the weekends is delivered to the Hostel boardroom.

Lodging and Meal Fees

If a Patient Hostel guest is requesting lodging without a current Travel Authorization (TA) or Prior Authorization (PA), the cost of lodging is $175 per night and $42 per day for meals.

If a NSHC patient without an authorization to lodge at the Patient Hostel has gained consent from a NSHC patient with a current TA or PA to be an escort, the cost per day for lodging is $20 and $42 per day for meals.
