Norton Sound Health Corporation closed to the public on Monday, Oct. 9th. Although not an official holiday for the corporation, Indigenous Peoples Day was approved by the Board of Directors as an opportunity to provide wellness and training activities for employees.
Throughout the day, employees in Nome and the villages were able to attend different workshops that focused on wellness, including lessons on salve-making using local plants, financial wellness, nutrition, beading, and much more. All employees were required to attend a customer service training called “We are the Patient Experience.” A panel of NSHC employees, including President/CEO Angie Gorn, reminded staff about the importance of compassion and professionalism when interacting with NSHC’s customer-owners.
Employee wellness was named a top priority at NSHC this year. Efforts are underway to increase wellness in the mind, body, and spirit for all staff.
