On December 31, there was one positive COVID-19 case identified in Brevig Mission. The case is considered to be community spread. The State of Alaska Section of Epidemiology and Public Health Nursing have been notified of the case and will conduct further investigation.
The addition of this case brings the number of total active cases in the region to 11. There are currently eight active cases in Nome, one in St. Michael, and two in Brevig Mission.
Brevig leadership and NSHC encourage all residents to follow the lockdown procedure for the next two weeks and to get tested for COVID-19 as soon as they are able. A lockdown means no visiting between household during this time or in other groups. In addition to the lockdown, it is important to get your COVID-19 test, wear face coverings, wash hands frequently, and keep your distance from others, all of which are important safety precautions to keep in mind. NSHC continues to work closely with the community and has sent additional help and supplies for community-wide testing.
If you have questions about COVID-19 testing, vaccinations, or have any concerns, you can call into NSHC’s Daily Tribal Leader Call every Monday-Thursday at 11 a.m. The call-in line is 1-800-315-6338; access code: 03286#.
