Nome, Alaska – On Wednesday, Dec. 1, Norton Sound Health Corporation identified 15 COVID-19 cases in the region. Of the new cases, six were in Nome, four were in Brevig Mission, two were in Stebbins, while Gambell, Shishmaref, and Shaktoolik each had one. All individuals have been notified and are safely isolating.
NSHC continues to offer official COVID-19 Vaccine Record Cards, which can be used to prove full vaccination. At this time, the cards will not include booster shot information. Upon request, cards will be printed and mailed after patients are fully vaccinated based on the requirements for each vaccine. Please plan 2-4 weeks for your card to arrive. To request a card for yourself or a family member, fill out a Request Form for each individual: http://bit.ly/NSHCVacCard.
It is always a good idea to carry a second proof of vaccine, such as the CDC paper card, official medical records, or verification information found on the MyHealth patient portal. To get a replacement CDC card, please contact your local clinic or stop by the pharmacy. To enroll in the MyHealth patient portal, call NSHC Patient Registration at 443-4542.
Anyone in the region can get tested for COVID-19. To schedule an appointment for COVID-19 testing, please visit https://www.picktime.com/NSHC. Walk-ins are also welcome.
Testing for COVID-19 is open daily for asymptomatic people from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Nome Operations Building Testing Center, located at the corner of Greg Kruschek Avenue and K Street. The Testing Center is open during the lunch hour, but staffing is limited.
The Cough and Cold Clinic is available for testing every day for symptomatic patients. It is located on the first floor of the hospital and is open from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Friday and 10 a.m.-10 p.m. on weekends. You can call the direct line to the clinic at (907) 443-3231.
There are currently 73 active cases in the region: 43 in Nome, 11 in Brevig, eight in Stebbins, four in Shaktoolik, three in Gambell, three in Shisharef, and one in Unalakleet. Village leadership in all communities have been notified.
