51 COVID-19 Cases Identified Over Holiday Weekend
Nome, Alaska –Norton Sound Health Corporation identified 51 new COVID-19 cases in the region between Friday, Feb. 18 and Monday, Feb. 21. Of the new cases, there were 11 cases in Nome, seven in Stebbins, six in Koyuk, five in both Brevig and Golovin, three in both Gambell and St. Michael, two in each Savoonga, Teller and Diomede, and one in each Unalakleet and Shaktoolik.
On Tuesday, Feb. 22, NSHC’s Dental department updated their COVID-19 guidelines. Patients who schedule a dental appointment no longer need to schedule a COVID-19 test, unless the patient is a close contact to a COVID-19 positive patient.
If you are sick or test positive for COVID-19, please isolate for five days (starting from the first day of symptoms, or the day of the positive test if without symptoms), followed by five days of wearing a face mask around other people. End isolation if you are fever-free for 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medicine) and your symptoms are improving.
If you were exposed to COVID-19 as a close contact and are NOT up-to-date on COVID-19 vaccinations:
• Quarantine for five days
• Wear a well-fitted mask around others until day 10
• Get tested four to five days after exposure
If you were exposed to COVID-19 as a close contact and are up-to-date on COVID-19 vaccinations:
• You do not have to quarantine, unless you develop symptoms
• Wear a well-fitted mask around others until day 10
• Get tested four to five days after exposure
There are currently 71 active cases in the region: 23 in Nome, 16 in Savoonga, five in each Gambell, Golovin, and Koyuk, four in Stebbins, three in both St. Michael and White Mountain, two in both Brevig and Diomede, and one is each Shaktoolik, Teller, and Unalakleet.
