Close Contact Tests Positive for COVID-19
Nome, Alaska – On December 4, Norton Sound Health Corporation identified one positive COVID-19 result in Nome.
The patient is considered to be a close contact to a previously identified case. The State of Alaska Section of Epidemiology and Public Health Nursing have been notified of the case and will conduct further investigation.
If you are considered to be a close contact to a person with COVID-19, it is important to quarantine for the full period of time recommended, even if you have recently tested negative. A person cannot test out of quarantine early. The current, new CDC options for close contacts is to quarantine for a full 10 days without testing, or for a full 7 days with a test at day 7. If that test is negative at day 7, a person may come out of quarantine on day 8. These are new, shorter options to the standard full 14 days of quarantine. Please keep in mind that a close contact must quarantine for a minimum of 7 days with a negative test on day 7. If you have been identified as a close contact or have been directed to quarantine for any other reason and have a question, please call 907-434-0654.
If you develop a cough, fever, shortness of breath, vomiting, diarrhea, congestion, fatigue, headache, or loss of taste or smell, please immediately quarantine and make an appointment at the Cough and Cold Clinic by calling the main appointment desk at (907) 443-3333. You can also call the direct line to the Cough and Cold Clinic at (907) 443-9666 or (907) 443-4200.
