On November 17, Norton Sound Health Corporation identified four positive COVID-19 cases.
The first patient, a resident of Nome, tested positive in accordance with the City of Nome’s testing and quarantine mandate related to travel. NSHC considers the other two patients’ virus acquisition as two separate close contact cases: one in Golovin and one in Nome. State officials are currently investigating the origin of COVID-19 found in the fourth patient. The fourth patient is self-isolating and agreed to allow NSHC to share their home community of Nome.
The State of Alaska Section of Epidemiology and Public Health Nursing have been notified. The addition of these four positive COVID-19 cases brings the total number of active cases in the region to 22. There are 16 in Nome, 1 in Stebbins, 1 in St. Michael, 1 in Elim, and 3 in Golovin.
If residents have questions regarding symptoms, which can include coughing, shortness of breath, fevering, fatigue, loss of taste or smell, diarrhea, or other cold-like symptoms, they should contact their local clinic or the Nurse Call Line at (907) 443-6411 or 844-586-8773 if outside of regular clinic hours. Other general questions about COVID-19 can be directed to the State of Alaska’s 211 resource number.
