Press Release: One COVID-19 Case Identified in Gambell

One COVID-19 Case Identified in Gambell

On January 22, Norton Sound Health Corporation identified one positive COVID-19 case in Gambell. The patient is safely isolating, and close contacts have been notified. The case does not appear to be related to travel.

The State of Alaska Section of Epidemiology and Public Health Nursing have been notified and will conduct further investigation on the case. There are currently nine active cases in Nome, and two active cases in the region’s villages. NSHC is working closely with village leadership to formulate a response plan and make sure testing is readily available for the community.

Beginning tomorrow, January 26, the Norton Sound Health Corporation Board of Directors is scheduled to meet telephonically through Thursday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The public can call in on Tuesday, January 26th at 9:30 a.m. to the number 1-800-315-6338; access code 03286#. Portions of the meeting may be conducted in executive session.
