Nome, Alaska – A patient tested positive for COVID-19 in a regional village on Tuesday, February 2. The patient is a resident of White Mountain, and the case is considered community spread.
NSHC has been in contact with leadership in the community to develop response plans. The State of Alaska Section of Epidemiology and Public Health Nursing have been notified and will conduct further investigation.
In White Mountain, community leaders decided to limit school hours and to suspend the elder lunch program for the time being. Testing of close contacts will continue on Wednesday.
As reported Monday, NSHC vaccination teams have administered over 5,000 vaccines in the region. In an effort to encourage more vaccinations and protecting the region, NSHC is planning a prize drawing. Every regional resident who has received at least a first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine will be eligible to enter to win.
Prizes include:
- 1st Grand Prize: Trip to Hawaii (four round-trip Alaska Airlines tickets and $3,000 cash)
- 2nd Grand Prize: $8,000 (+ shipping cost) toward four wheeler/ATV of choice purchased in region
- $500 toward groceries at local store – 16 prizes
- $500 fuel voucher – 16 prizes
- 10% of survey respondents will receive $100 – drawn weekly
To enter the prize drawing, anyone who has received their first dose of the vaccine may text VACCINE to 833-413-0568 and answer a short questionnaire. The questionnaire is also available online at https://bit.ly/3tpzQKa. Paper copies of the survey will be made available at clinics and in Nome. Entries must be received by March 31, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. NSHC employees are only eligible to receive the 1st and 2nd grand prizes.
