Two COVID-19 Cases Identified in Region
Between January 13 and January 14, there were two positive COVID-19 cases identified in the region.
The first patient, a resident of Nome, is a close contact to a previously identified COVID-19 case. The second patient is a resident of the region and their case is considered to be travel-related. Both patients are safely isolating.
NSHC is working closely with village leadership and is sending additional help and supplies for community-wide testing. Beginning tomorrow, village leadership will be putting several precautions in place to prevent an outbreak in the community. NSHC encourages everyone in the community to get tested for COVID-19 and limit their social circles to just their own households.
The State of Alaska Section of Epidemiology and Public Health Nursing have been notified of the cases and will conduct further investigation. The addition of these two cases brings the total number of active cases in Nome to ten and the total number of active cases in the region’s villages to one.
If you have questions about COVID-19 testing, vaccinations, or have any concerns, you can call into NSHC’s Daily Tribal Leader Call every Monday-Thursday at 11 a.m. You can call into NSHC’s Daily Tribal Leader Call every Monday-Thursday at 11 a.m. The call-in line is 1-800-315-6338; access code: 03286#.
