Norton Sound Heath Corporation has clinics in each of the 15 villages of the Norton Sound region. Many essential health care services are provided at the village clinics, minimizing the need to travel to Norton Sound Regional Hospital in Nome.
Norton Sound Regional Hospital is the center of NSHC’s hospital services, including inpatient and emergency treatment, preventive care and laboratory services.
When NSHC Indian Health Services(I.H.S.) patients are in need of medical care that is above the level NSHC provides, such as surgery or MRIs, they are transported to the Alaska Native Medical Center (ANMC) in Anchorage. In an emergency situation, staff may fly to a village to transport the patient to Anchorage. When NSHC non-I.H.S. patients are in need of medical care that is above the level NSHC provides they are referred to Alaska Regional Hospital or Providence Alaska Medical Center.
