On November 11, Norton Sound Health Corporation received two positive COVID-19 results.
The first patient who tested positive for COVID-19 is a resident of Nome. The second patient who tested positive in Nome is from the region. Both patients tested positive for COVID-19 as part of the City of Nome’s testing and quarantine mandate related to travel, where they will remain safely isolating until recovered.
The State of Alaska Section of Epidemiology and Public Health Nursing have been notified and will conduct further investigation, including contact tracing.
Community travel mandates continue to prove to be an effective tool at identifying positive cases of the virus and preventing further spread. NSHC encourages people to pay attention to the latest resolutions from communities regarding travel and requirements from travelers, including needed quarantine time and COVID-19 testing.
If residents have questions regarding symptoms, which can include coughing, shortness of breath, fevering, fatigue, loss of taste or smell, diarrhea, or other cold-like symptoms, they should contact their local clinic or the Nurse Call Line at (907) 443-6411 or 844-586-8773 if outside of regular clinic hours. Other general questions about COVID-19 can be directed to the State of Alaska’s 211 resource number.
